Ask any SEO consultant and he or she would answer with a resounding yes. Google is number one and it doesn't appear like any of the new search engines can keep up, much less overtake it. Google is the most used search engine in the world. Those trailing it aren't even close. Last time we checked, Google was involved in 72% of all online searches in the US, according to a survey by Hitwise. However, it would still be foolish for Google to discount the new competitors. Some of them are rising fast and they would be lucky if they get a share of Google's traffic-generating prowess.

This is something that search engine optimization practitioners have to watch out for despite Google accounting for most of our income. If it's smart (and I believe that it's incredibly smart) Google is looking over its shoulder at Yahoo! and even MSN, including the other search engines, right this very minute and doing everything it can not to be surpassed.

Google is not to be pitied however. Any SEO specialist will tell you that Google is an intelligent company that thinks on its toes. It has an endless supply of resources where it gets its brightest ideas from. We've witnessed how Google keeps evolving with the times. Its excellence is historic. Google is in the dictionary; it won't be obliterated just like that.

The other search engines may all competing against Google. They're continuously scrutinizing every step that Google makes in the hopes that it will stumble or they find a way to outdo Google due to a gape in Google's shield. They can dream…in the same way that Google pursued its dream.
