Google Analytics and Web Design

Any marketing tool is only as good as the results that it yields. In order to see if any online marketing plan is working you must be able to measure your results. If executed correctly an online marketing plan can bring in new customers on a regular basis. A website can multi-task for your company and sell products, develop leads, and handle customer service all in one fell swoop. Whether you are running a bakery in Melbourne or an accounting firm in Los Angeles, your company website can work as hard as any employee on your staff, and it is working all day, every day. So when you are considering your web design think about what you want to accomplish with your website, and how you will determine if it is working.

Web Design and Marketing Go Hand in Hand

One of the most effective ways to market online is through the search engines. By optimizing your site, you can have the search engines display your website in their results, list, and this gets visitors to your site better than any other advertising. For the best SEO strategies, using a professional SEM consultant could be a good investment. Searching the web for “SEM Australia,” or “SEM services” in your main city is a good place to start. Google also offers free analysis tools so you can see how well your optimization efforts are working.

To use Google Analytics you need to first register with Google. Though there are several ways to do this, one of the easiest ways is to sign up for a Gmail account, short for Google Mail. Once you have registered with Google you have the use of Google's free tools such as Google Analytics. This can be a great digital marketing tool that could turn your business around.

When using any of Google's free tools, just follow the instructions that Google provides. You can track your results in Google Analytics by putting the Google Tracking Code somewhere on each page throughout your company website. This tracking code is used for exactly that, tracking which pages searchers are visiting and which ones they are not. At a glance you can see which products or pages are pulling in the most traffic. This gives you the opportunity to look at the pages that are not being visited and make adjustments to pull in more traffic to those pages also.

Once your website is plugged into Google Analytics, you will immediately have page activity information at your fingertips. You can track which pages are getting the most visitors, what time they visited, if they were a new visitor, etc. It takes a little time to get a true reading of your activity though because at the beginning, obviously everyone will be a new visitor. Over time if you have 15% returning visitors you are doing pretty well, and this is a good ratio for returning visitors. That leaves 85% of the visitors to your site as first time visitors, and that is a nice balance. You want your web content to bring in new visitors, but it has to be interesting for your return customers as well.

Google Analytics can give you a lot of information that can help you adjust your online marketing plan to work efficiently for you. Google uses a lot of the information found in Google Analytics in their algorithms that determine search engine ranking, so the more successful you can make your website activity using Google Analytics, most probably the more successful your search engine ranking efforts will be.
