Whether you live in Melbourne or the Swiss Alps, one of the best feelings in the world is to wake up in the morning and check the web and see how much money you made while you were sleeping. An even better feeling is when you see that you actually did make money, and it is not a dream. Once you figure out how to get all of the pieces in sync on the internet, you can easily make a decent living off of your website. Just imagine no commuter traffic, no deadlines, and no overtime!
So a typical day would go something like this. You wake up, whenever, and grab your cup of coffee and settle in to read the paper. Then maybe hit the gym; go shopping, anything you like. Oh yea, let's not forget a quick peak online to make sure we are still making money! It sounds like an impossible dream, but there are millions doing it every day. The good news is that you can too with a little bit of work, and advice from some web marketing experts.
Here is the thing though. You are not going to get rich in a day. We have all seen the internet ads claiming that you can get rich overnight. It is simply not true. There is some work involved, and like anything worth having, you may have to apply yourself a little. So steer clear of the scams which promise you something for nothing. Think more in terms of work smart, not hard.
I know what I am talking about because I have been scammed just one time too many. Every time that I thought I was impervious to the rhetoric, something new would come along at just the right time, and it would snag me again. Human nature is ripe for being conned, so you do always have to ask yourself if it is too good to be true, and if it is --- run.
If you are new to the idea of making money online, right about now, you probably want to know where to even start.
Most importantly, and I cannot stress this point enough, is to start blogging. Blogger.com is a free blog site and is really easy to use. By blogging you are not necessarily setting up a website just yet, but you are laying the foundation for your own website, so when you are ready for one most of the work is already done.
While Blogger does not cost anything, you will eventually want to register your own domain name, and that will cost around ten dollars a year. Eventually you will want to move your blog to your own website so that you have complete control over it. Since you do not own the blogger site, actually it is owned by Google, your content may get edited. Google retains the right to delete content.
If you try to understand everything at once the project will be overwhelming. So first just get good at blogging. In time when you are comfortable in that arena, you can start inserting HTML code and graphics. If you take your time and learn each step none of this will be hard. It is not rocket science. It is just fragmented.
Now that you are ready to build your website you can start exploring which sites are the easiest to use. Try to make your website yourself using a simple web site builder, because if you do you will understand the whole process that much sooner.
Tool #1 - HTML Editor
The first thing that you need to get comfortable with is an easy to use HTML editor. This is software that helps you write web pages. There are so many different versions on the internet that any of the big name brands will work fine like Microsoft or Adobe.
Once you have an HTML editor building your web page is easy. Put some time into learning your new software. Play around with different web page designs. And you are well on your way to the next step.
Tool #2 - Learn How HTML Works
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and in this case you need to get busy. You will need to understand the basic structure of HTML. You do not need to understand every little nuance, but you do need to have a solid overview of HTML structure, which is as follows:
Title - This is the title of you website, and it should include your keywords
Body - This is the meat of your website.
Head - This is your website's heading.
HTML - This is your language version.
Headers (H1-3) - These are page headings.
Bold - This is a font designation.
Hyperlink - This is a link from your web page to another web page
Table - This is an organized way of displaying information on your page.
Do yourself a favor and invest in some sort of HTML reference book. Even HTML for Dummies would be a great selection.
Tool #3 - A Great Domain Name
This is the name of your website as in http://www.domainname.com
Pick a domain name that describes your page, and because you will want to use it as a keyword in the future. This will make for a powerful link down the road. Also, pick a domain name ending with “.com”. This is the suffix that most people will naturally tend to use
Tool #4 - Web Hosting
This is space that you rent on a server (a large computer linked to the internet) where all of the programs and graphics for your website reside. It is kind of like your desktop computer but bigger. The web host has all of the software for communication like email, database support, etc. There are many different rates and packages available for web hosting, generally the more space your web page uses, the more your web hosting will cost. However, you can get ample space for very low rates, so even though this is an expense, it is not a very big one. Search for "web hosting Australia" for a few options.
Tool #5 - FTP Software
This software lets you transfer your web pages, graphics etc. from your computer to your web host, which is called uploading. Or you can download from your web host to your computer. There are many ways to transfer information from your program to your web host, but FTP software is the simplest. You might also look for a search engine optimisation provider.
If you want to get started with you very own online business, just start with blogging, and then progress at your own pace until you too can wake up in the morning and check to see how much you made while you were sleeping. Or for other advice and help, see website design Brisbane or website design Sydney- there are plenty of companies who can advise you on your next move.
