PHP may be commonly heard in web design and online marketing circles. I've heard it said so often but I wasn't aware of what it actually was until I enrolled in a course introducing PHP or Personal Home Page. And I thought the PHP acronym stood for words that I'd have a difficult time pronouncing, let alone understanding. PHP is also commonly known as Hyper Text Pre-processor.

PHP is what's considered as scripting language. It is typically embedded with HTML or Hyper Text Mark-up Language. Rasmus Lerdorf was the one who designed PHP in 1995, while it was the famous PHP group that developed it. In 1997, PHP2.0 got released and made available. It's very easy to remember. Its file carries .php extensions. Ramsus Lerdorf created PHP for usage logging as well as to make server side forms. Lerdorf later developed PHP for huge web design projects.

The Role of PHP in Improving Web Design

PHP was designed mainly to allow for dynamic website designs. The focus is mainly on server side scripting. If PHP code would be given as input to its web servers, the output would be the HTML content. PHP runs on almost any web server. It's free software used for web design. Another advantage is the ease in the implementation and use. In other words, the pertinent code is in its most readable form. This is how PHP creates an advantage. The scripting language is not just focused on server side scripting; it also has a role in executing the scripts. It is utilized to generate what's termed as the GUI or graphic user interface on the client side.

The PHP language is ideal for the search engines and emarketing. When merged with MySQL, PHP could be useful to access all types of data. The PHP boasts to have numerous extensions, thus, data interaction is made easy.

Other advantages to PHP include its compatibility with cross platforms, being able to run on basically any server, processing of rich text, and being compatible with many types of databases. PHP is also user-friendly. You need only to be familiar with programming basics and a little knowledge of C language.
