Conversion rate

Conversion rate is a factor that expresses the relationship between the number of visitors to a website and the conversion that those visits generate. The conversion could be anything like generating sales of a product or asking for more information. It is an important parameter in determining the success of your SEO marketing efforts.

Whenever you are advertising anything on the internet, like displaying ads for your products or services in your search engine marketing or SEM efforts, it is necessary that you generate some revenues from your ads. If you are not selling anything, you will be wasting your money as displaying the ads are in it self a costly affair. If these ads do not convert into sales, your search engine marketing will not be useful.

When you are implementing search marketing, you should keep a close look on your conversion rates. In search engine marketing jargon, this factor is generally realized in terms of the percentage. It is the percentage of the total number of views of a particular ad that gets converted into sales. If say there are 10,000 views of a particular advertisement used for search engine marketing. Of these many views, say there are 100 conversions. Thus, the conversion rate for that ad is 1%.

Conversion rate in search engine marketing is further bifurcated for better understanding. If say you have 1000 views of your ad and of them 100 users have clicked on that ad. Thus, your PPC or pay per click conversion rate of search engine marketing is 10%. Of these 100 clicks, say you get 10 phone calls, thus your website conversion rate is 10%. Of these 10 phone calls, say 4 of them end up purchasing what you are trying to sell. Thus, the sales conversion rate of your search engine marketing is 25%. The last type of conversion rate is what ultimately matters and this should be as high as possible. By splitting the conversion in to simpler terms, you can find out what is lacking in your website marketing campaign. Thus you can focus on that aspect more.

Say your website conversion rate of the search engine marketing campaign is on the lower side. This will suggest that there is something lacking in your website. Either your site is not up to date or it is not promoting the products well or it is not informative. This tells you that your website needs to be revamped in order for your internet marketing strategy to yield rich dividends. If you happen to improve on any of the conversion rates, your over all sales can benefit and your search engine marketing campaign will be of use. One of the key applications of this tool in search engine marketing is that it tell you the amount that you have to pay in order to reach the targeted audience.
