A status bar is an information area which is generally found at the bottom of the browser. Many a times, status bar is divided into various sections which show various relevant information. The main purpose of a status bar is to show the information about the present state of its window. The website designers should design the website in such a way that it is capable of showing all the relevant about their site. Also the website developer should make sure that their site is authorized enough otherwise the status bar will show a pop up message to the user.
In console based applications, a status bar may be text based. Here the status bar is called as status line and it will show the information of the current state of the application program. Status bar was mainly used to show the progress of the loading website in the browser window. In simple words it shows the connection speed between the server and the computer where the web page is stored. Once the page has been loaded the status bar goes blank.
