WebDynamic™ Web Glossary

A collection of electronic pages on the World Wide Web that are linked together and maintained by a company, organisation, or individual. The first of these pages is usually the home page, and these pages are typically organised into a hierarchical structure via a navigation menu and sub-menus.

All the pages in a website will have the same host or domain name. For example, www.website.com/news and www.website.com/contact are two separate pages on the same website. A website can be entered via any page within the site, but is most commonly entered via the homepage using the common root URL or domain name.

A website is now an essential marketing tool to any business. A business that does not have a website nowadays is prone to losing potential customers and sales to competitors that do. This is because increasingly, people use the web as their first port of call to find a product or service. Why? Because it is the fastest, most convenient and comprehensive consumer research tool in existence.

A website gives an organisation a unique presence on the web, that can be accessible by anyone, anywhere in the world. It gives visitors an opportunity to find out about a company, their products and services in complete freedom, by clicking through to the pages or sections of the site that interest them most.
