Web design is a multidisciplinary, multiskilled profession. It combines technical coding and programming with graphic design and aesthetics, visual media with written communications. It requires an understanding of information management and site architecture, as well as usability and accessibility.

Australia has produced many pioneering website designers, including the late Nigel MacFarlane. Nigel had a global reputation for his leading edge design and software engineering work, which he forged from his hometown of Melbourne.
