Aspect Ratio

A web designer uses aspect ratio in their work. Aspect ratio is a ratio of width to length or height. A web designer will use drawings or graphics having the same aspect ratio to be photographically reduced or enlarged to the same size. Aspect ratio is important to a web designer and is something that they always have to keep in mind as aspect ratio also refers to the shape of a computer monitor screen. A skilled web designer is also a person who is good in math. Math is used by a web designer in the aspect that most creative pleasing designs, works of art, objects and even people have math in common. This is why the aspect ratio is so important to a web designer and their work. The aspect ratio is commonly referred to as the golden ratio which is know as the divine proportion.

Containers

A web designer makes web pages that use a container to contain page elements; however the way it is accomplished varies. There are two main types of containers that a web designer will use with aspect ratios. They are called Liquid, which expands to fill the width of the browser window, and Fixed, which is a specific width you choose which does not change regardless of browser window size. The header which is installed by the web designer isn't really a specific element although some may consider it to be. It is more generally used in referring to the top section of your web page where your logo, navigation, and tagline are located.

Div's

A web designer might prefer to keep these elements contained within a div for easier page styling, element separation and/or element containment. The header would be considered a container with an aspect ratio, so it would have one of the two types to choose from, liquid or fixed. A logo put in by a web designer is a customer's identity and branding. The most common of a web designer placement for the logo is an aspect ratio within the header, aligned left. People read from left to right, top to bottom, so the logo will most likely be the first element visitors look at.

Important Elements

Page navigation is one of the most important elements that a web designer composes. It should be easy to find and use, which is why it is almost always placed by a web designer with an aspect ratio within the header or at least near the top of the page. The types of navigation that the web designer will use with an aspect ratio to the page is Horizontal, which is a series of links displayed inline, usually referred to as "navigation", and Vertical, which is a series of links displayed as a vertical stack, usually referred to as "menu". A web designer will place the main content in an aspect ratio to the web page where it will be the main focal point of a web page so visitors find what they are looking for quickly. The rest of the web site will be placed in aspects ratios by the web designer in an order of importance through out the web site.
